"Gourds A Plenty"

In this painting I tried a new canvas - clear primed linen. I sprayed it with fixative and tried to execute it in pastels. The surface didn't grab the pastels like I was used to. I just couldn't get clean edges on my gourds. I sprayed it again - this time with retouch varnish. I left the background like it was and painted over the gourds with oils. I liked my set up and I was determined to make it work. I mounted the painting in a dark frame with a white linen liner. I'm finally pleased with the results.
