"Cedar Wax Wing"

I have been experimenting with working on different pastel surfaces lately. This one is on Art Spectrum paper. While pelicans are my favorite bird, I love painting all birds in oil and pastels.

"Toy Story"

This was a fun painting, but took so much concentration! Attention to details and shadows. All the preparation of setting up the still life and cropping to refine the composition. When people ask me how long it took me to do a painting, I laugh. They have no idea how much goes into just getting ready to paint.

"Central Park Snacks"

My first painting using Arches Oil Paper. Very smooth texture. I like it OK, but I miss the weave in linen. My sister Diane took the photo on a recent trip to NYC.

"Cafe in Montreal"

My latest pastel is finally finished. I started it before we started the bathroom renovation and got sidetracked. We had such a good time when we visited Montreal. Some of the best food I have ever eaten. It was like traveling to Europe without the long plane flight.

"Rocks in the Stream"

A painterly pastel of a woodland stream. After spending a lot of time recently doing tight, precise drawing, it was fun to let go and just add dashes of color. No more pastel pencils for a while.

"Sunset at the Point"

I love doing sunsets, though trying to match the warm peach, blue violets and yellows of the sky can be quite a challenge. I never seem to have the exact color pastel. Maybe I need to buy some more! Can't have too many (unless you talk to my husband, that is.)

Portrait commission recently completed. The hair was a bit of a challenge, but the client is happy with the result, so I am happy.

"Just a Little Saucy"

Inspired by David Kassen's sketch with pan pastels in his newest dvd, I decided to give it a try. Iused only a makeup sponge and a sponge eyeshadow applicator to paint the portrait. Great way to do sketches. Very little dust.
